View Emmitt's Life Tribute A funeral service celebrating the life of Emmitt L. Filkins, Jr., 62 of Newark, will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Robert Filkins officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Emmitt was born on September 15, 1959 in Newark, Ohio to the late Emmitt L. Filkins, Sr. and Janice (Garretson) Filkins, who survives. He passed away at Licking Memorial Hospital on October 25, 2021. Emmitt was a maintenance technician for Mid-Ohio Development for many years. He enjoyed hunting, stock car racing and especially enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia (Carpenter) Filkins; children, Rebecca (Tyrone) Ross, Melissa Filkins, Steven Filkins, Brooke Filkins, Russell (Crystal) Greene, Jessica Greene and Jeffrey (Jessica) Greene; grandchildren, Peanut, J.J., Kalia, Jorden, Adyson, Scarlett, Hannah, Jameson, Myla, Matthew, Ashton, Daphne, Elliot, Madison, Emma, Makayla, Jeffrey Jr. and Olivia; sister, Kim (George) Thomas; brothers, Nathan (Dea) Filkins, Eric (Jeanette) Filkins and Bryan (Tina) Filkins; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Emmitt Filkins III. Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Emmitt and his family.
