Ermal Walter Messer, 81, of Etna, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Tuscany Gardens in Pataskala. He was born in Wayne County West Virginia on August 24, 1931 to the late Lonnie and Vadie (Hall) Messer. Walt was a 32nd degree mason and member of the Pataskala F& AM #404, member of the Reynoldsburg Freewill Baptist Church and a life time member of the N.R.A. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a Cincinnati Reds enthusiast. Walt also worked on cars and was an all-around handyman. He retired from the Liebert Corporation after 27 years of service.He is survived by his loving family: wife, Frances; children: Rose Mary Davis and Gary Lee (Maria) Messer; two granddaughters: Loretta Rachel Messer and Debbie Marie Messer; two great-grandsons, Kaleb Christian Messer and Chandler Rian Shull; four brothers: Troy, Ernest (Mary Lee), Jess (Wanda), and Eugene (Cathy) Messer; three sisters: Ruth Williamson, Lillian Zeke, and Mary Smyers; mother-in-law, Mary Meade; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bradley Davis and three brothers: Claude, Forrest, and Dewey Messer.A funeral service, celebrating Walts life, will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Kirkersville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, with Pastor Jerry Sargent officiating.A short service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 from noon to one at The Church of Christ, Walnut Grove in Crum WV. with Pastors Jessie Spaulding and Robert Perry officiating.
