Eugene Marion “Gene” Simmers, 75, of Granville, passed away at Mt. Carmel East on November 28, 2022. He was born in Newark, Ohio on October 29, 1947 to the late Charles Eugene and Norma Maxine (Hobbs) Simmers. Private funeral services will be held for the family at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with military honors observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Gene proudly served his country as a combat medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Silver Star for gallantry in action. Gene had a great sense of humor and could fix and repair anything, but most important in his life was his love for family and his ability to pass along his faith in The Lord Jesus Christ. In his younger years, he was an avid fisherman, and was the owner of Ohio Fish Finder Magazine; he enjoyed everything about cars from collecting, restoring, and repairing classic and muscle cars to racing and watching races. He often spent time tinkering on projects in his garage listening to QFM96. He loved to host family picnics at Infirmary Mound Park and Halloween parties at his home. Survivors include his daughters, Christina (Simmers) Brooks, Jill Simmers and Tracy Lindley; grandchildren, Brandon Spellman, Alexandra (Kalib Wells) Simmers, Nathaniel (Kaitlyn DeNune) Brooks, Christian Brooks, Elizabeth (Haven) Samson Clark and Victoria Simmers; great grandchildren, Hunter Simmers-Wells, Kainan Brooks and Myles Brooks; and his beloved cats, Rascal and Annie, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Rickey Harold Simmers and Susan Jo Simmers; and son-in-law, Donald R. Brooks.
