Eugene E. Hast, 91, died December 29, 2021 at Kendal at Granville. He was predeceased by his parents, Wilbert A. and Florence (Wickliff) Hast; brother SFC Wilbert C. Hast; and sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Moore) Hast. Formerly of Columbus, he moved in 2005 to Kendal at Granville, a Quaker continuing care community. He graduated from Central High School, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master of Arts degree from The Ohio State University as well as a Certificate of Advanced Study and a Doctor of Education from Harvard University. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving at the Army Medical Research Laboratory (Fort Knox, KY) and at the Harvard Medical School (Cambridge, MA) doing research in environmental physiology. He was a retired teacher and administrator with Columbus Public Schools and an associate of Azia Oriental Rugs. He was a very private person, an ardent fisherman, waterfowler, antiquer, oriental rug enthusiast, world traveler and gardener. Dr. Hast was involved in research and writing about young wood duck populations at Buckeye Lake (Ohio) and fall waterfowl migrations there and at Alum Creek Lake (Ohio). Professionally, his interests were educational planning and development. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Granville, Ohio, and Phi Delta Kappa Educational Honor Society. At his request, there will be no service. Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home in Newark is honored to care for Dr. Hast.
