Evelyn Louise (Ours) Clay

Evelyn Louise (Ours) Clay passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 20, 2018 following an extended illness. Evelyn was born in Akron, Ohio on May 14, 1931 to Everett and Zella (Gainer) Ours. She was a graduate of Hebron High School and attended Hiram College. She married Sherman Clay, Jr. on July 8, 1953 and enjoyed 60 years of marriage.   Evelyn’s generous heart was evident as she served the public at Lawsons in Buckeye Lake and County Fair Foods and Pizza Barn (currently Clay’s Café) in Hebron. Every October for 50 years one could find Evelyn at their family french fry booth at the Fairfield County Fair, dishing up fries and greeting the public.   Evelyn was a member of the Hebron Christian Church, organizing VBS on several occasions.  She was also a member of Eagon Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Hebron Lions and Lioness Clubs, and served as Mother Advisor for the Hebron Rainbow Girls.   She is survived by her five children: Cheryl (James) Maslowski of Hebron, Randy (Sue) Clay of Versailles, Kentucky, Philip Clay of Newark, Penny (John) Slater of Hebron and Glenna (Mark) Jones of Hebron; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters; three brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter and two brothers.   Evelyn enjoyed playing Rummy and Scrabble and visiting with her family.  A special thank you goes out to the nurses aides from Interim and the Hospice staff for their kind care and attention.   Visitation will be at the Kirkersville Chapel of the Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, 285 East Main Street in Kirkersville on Sunday, September 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. with Eastern Star services following at 7 p.m. A worship celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 24, at the Hebron Christian Church. Burial will follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estate in Reynoldsburg.    In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058-0430 or the Hebron Christian Church, PO Box 736, Hebron, Ohio 43025.   Please visit www.HoskinsonFuneral.com to share a special memory about Evelyn or to sign an online guest book.Please click on this link to view the Memorial Video Tribute.   Hoskinson Funeral Home in Kirkersville is honored to care for Evelyn and her family.
