A memorial service celebrating the life of Evelyn H. Smith, age 87, of Lancaster, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, at the North Congregation of Kingdom Hall of the Jehovahs Witnesses, 1051 Sugar Grove Road, Lancaster, with Brother Joe Cavanaugh officiating.Evelyn was born January 13, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Brookdale Senior Living in Lancaster.Evelyn had been a claims examiner for the Bureau of Employment in Lancaster and had also been employed by the Social Security Office in Newark and the State of Indiana.She was a member of the North Congregation Kingdom Hall of the Jehovahs Witnesses.She is survived by three children, Delores (Charles) Smith of Indianapolis, IN, Alberta Johnson and Leverta Carroll (Duane Baker), all of Baltimore; granddaughter, Evelyn Franklin of Indianapolis, IN; honorary daughter, Grace Friend of Lancaster; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her mother, Alberta (Buchanan) Holman; daughters, Toni Franklin and Tawanda Hawkins; three grandchildren, Louis Milton Johnson III, Christopher Nathaniel Carroll and Jayla Moss; two brothers, Charles Russell and John Russell; two sisters, Ann Russell and Barbara Taylor; and step-father, Levert Hawkins.Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, October 9, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.Memorial contributions may be made to FairHoPe Hospice, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, OH 43130.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Evelyn and her family.
