Evelyn Jane Smith

February 11, 1932 — November 15, 2021

A funeral service celebrating the life of Evelyn Jane Smith, 89 of Newark, will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Cory Campbell officiating. The burial will follow at Rocky Fork Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, two hours prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Evelyn was born in Zanesville, Ohio on February 11, 1932 to the late Harry David Woods and Nettie (Baker) Woods Staffey. She passed away peacefully at home (where she wanted to be) on November 15, 2021 with her daughter right by her side. She then went on through the Heavenly Gates to her forever home in Heaven. Heaven now has a new angel! Evelyn was a devoted homemaker and she enjoyed sewing, fishing, drawing, crocheting, cooking, baking, and going to yard sales. Evelyn also loved to collect angel figurines. She was always smiling and stayed strong no matter what she endured. Life wasn’t always fair to her, but she was always fair to life. Most important in her life was the time she spent with her loving family and friends, as well as trusting in God. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all who loved her. Survivors include her children Nola Barnes, Teresa (Rick) Frenton, who was also her caregiver, and Tammy (Brian) Cooper; brother, Richard L. (Jan) Woods; sister, Jean Stansberry; grandchildren, Kasi (Shaun), Krista (Allan), Kari (Brad), Jennifer (Jeff), Brian, Devan (Nerissa), Jason, Joshua, Keith (Adrianna), and Wayne (Amanda); half-sister, Mary Staffey and half-brother, Ralph (Libby) Staffey; special close friend, who was like a daughter, Barbara Arnold; special close cousin, Bertie Hill; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Smith; infant daughter, Lori Ann Smith; sister, Rose Heightshoe; son-in-law, Wayne Barnes; step-brother, Sam (Wanda) Staffey and numerous other half-brothers and half-sisters. The family would like to thank Cheryl, Gina, Lisa, and Jane from Generation Hospice. They would also like to thank Kim, Jennifer, Cory, Jeremy Campbell’s office staff, and Megan for all of the additional love and care that was provided to Evelyn. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Evelyn to Generation Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Evelyn and the Smith family.
