A funeral service, celebrating the life of Frances A. Holliday, age 94, of Newark, will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Shedrick L. Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.Frances was born on April 28, 1922 in Cherokee, Alabama and was the first born child of Leona (Rutland) Carpenter. She enjoyed living in the home of her grandparents, Ensley and Ada Rutland. She went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2016 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio.In 1941, Frances married her high school sweetheart, Cleveland Holliday (Private, US Army, WWII), and relocated to Newark, Ohio in 1948. She was a self-employed interior decorator and caterer. Homemade rolls were the most requested and appreciated item. Bringing friends and family together by enjoying great meals and passing the family history to the next generation was her legacy. Her favorite bible verse was O Give Thanks to the Lord for His Mercy Endourth Forever.She was a member of Christ Memorial Baptist Church in Columbus; Licking Memorial Hospital, TWIG 17; and the Nimble Thimble Club, which helped the community in which she lived. She enjoyed shopping and traveling.Survivors include her daughter, Blanche Fowler; special granddaughter, Djuana Taylor; grandson, Derrick Fowler; great grandchildren, Sean Taylor, Sierra Taylor and Ashley Fowler; nephew, Robert (Courtney) Glover; nieces, Roberta Glover and Nora Scott; son-in-law, Pastor Shedrick (Rosie) Fowler; special friends, Sigel (Sandy) Roush, Elizabeth Argo and Mary and Doug Gerber.In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Cleveland Holliday, who died in 1993; brother, Robert Thompson, Jr. in 1985; brother-in-law, James Henry Glover in 1996 (Private, US Army); sister, Maggie Glover in 2015; and niece Shelaine Glover-Watson in 2008.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Frances to Catholic Social Services, 1031 Brice Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Frances and her family.
