A funeral service celebrating the life Franklin L. Frank Sorrell, age 80, of Newark, will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, with Reverend Greg Rosser officiating. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Frank was born in New Boston, Ohio on October 27, 1936 to the late Albert and Minnie (Morgan) Sorrell. He passed away at Sharon Brooke in Newark on September 23, 2017. Prior to retirement, Frank was a police officer and was Chief of Police for the Village of Granville for many years. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, camping and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Survivors include his siblings, Lorene (Bernard) Holton, Dolores McKee, Robert (Carolyn) Sorrell and Connie (Bill) Streeter; special nieces, Pamela Lewis and Pam Mautz; and numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Helen (Bodkin) Sorrell; brother, Ralph; and sister, Donna Gail.
