Fred Lewis Zollinger, Sr.

A funeral service, celebrating the life of Fred Lewis Zollinger, Sr., 93, of Millersport, will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Millersport United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jerry Wiles as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Floral Hills Cemetery, Lancaster.Fred died early Friday, September 18, 2015 in Thornville following an extended illness. He was born in Walnut Township, on February 18, 1922, the son of the late Tenny and Minnie (Bope) Zollinger. Fred was a graduate of Millersport H.S., class of 1940, and served honorably in the US Army, 101st Airborne Division in WWII. Fred was a lifelong farmer and also worked for the State of Ohio at ODOT and the School for the Deaf in Columbus.Fred was an active member of the Millersport Community, belonging to Millersport U.M. Church, Alturas Lodge F. & A. M., Millersport Chapter #301 O.E.S., Millersport American Legion, VFW Baltimore Post and was a long time 4-H advisor.Fred is survived by his children David (Patty) of Millersport, Fred Jr. (Sara) of Deland, Florida, Judy of Millersport; 4 grandchildren Stacy (Lance) Brunen, Ryan Zollinger, Kelly (Matt) Bonham and Luke (Nellie Nguyen) Zollinger, 3 great-grandchildren Kimberly & Allison Zollinger, Glenn Bonham; along with his brothers Ralph (Patty) and Charles (Carolyn) Zollinger; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife Frances Zollinger, on February 3, 2003 and 6 of his siblings.The family will receive friends on Monday, September 21, 2015 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Thornville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, 56 S. Main Street in Thornville, where Alturas Lodge #537 F.&A.M. will hold masonic services at 7:30 p.m. and Millersport O.E.S. #301 will hold Eastern Star services at 6:45 p.m.The family prefers that memorials be directed to the Fairfield County 4-H Endowment P.O. Box 564, Lancaster, Ohio 43130. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
