Newark

Family and friends are welcome to join us at a graveside service for Freda V. Shaw, age 80 years, and John Shaw to be held on Wednesday, April 23 at 11:00 am, Kirkersville Cemetery, with Pastor Jason Watson officiating.

Mrs. Shaw passed away Thursday, April 3 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio in Newark surrounded by family who loved her with all of their hearts. She was born in Pataskala, Ohio on March 3, 1945 to the late Nina Belle Sheets and Frank Benjamin Hash.

Freda will always be remembered for her loving, warm and giving heart. She was always willing to help a person out any way she could. Freda, along with her husband John, opened their home to several foster children in the 1980’s. These children would cry when told they would be leaving, because in their home, they were treated the same as their natural children. She got great joy in anything family, loving on the babies and cooking her many delicious meals. Truly, if you knew Freda, you were blessed.

Freda and John married on December 31, 1961 and celebrated 48 wonderful years together. They shared two daughters, Robin and Rhonda, and then welcomed Raymond into their home, adopting him into the family.

She is survived by her children, Robin (Charles) Moyer, Rhonda (Barry) Hunt, and Raymond Shaw. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian (Britney Stuller) Miller, Jennifer (Jonathan) Wagner, Cory (Bryant Scruggs) Moyer, Matthew Moyer, and Benjamin Hunt. Freda had 3 great granddaughters, Natalie Miller, Cecelia “Cece” Wagner, and most recently Margaret “Margo” Wagner, whom she was blessed to meet on April 1.

Freda is survived by one sister, Donna Barton of Newark; one brother, Tom (Patsy) Hash of Frazeysburg; one sister-in-law, Viola Blevins of Newark; several nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends in Marion, Virginia. All of the family vacations were spent in Marion with her lifelong best friend, Geraldine Vencil. She is also survived by a special family friend, Michelle Miller. Those memories were continued to be made until the death of John in 2009.

Freda is preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; sisters, Betty Householder and Sara Blevin; her brothers, William Hash, Robert Hash, and James Hash; her bothers-in-law, James Shaw, Donald Householder, Lewis Blevins, and Jerry Barto; and sisters-in-law Margaret Smart, Mary Hash, Bertie Hash and Sybil Hash.
