Gary A. Gilgien, age 64, of Thornville, passed away peacefully his home on December 24, 2018, after a long battle with Amyloidosis. Funeral services, will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church, 65 East Columbus Street, Thornville, with Pastor Orrey McFarland as celebrant. Burial will follow at Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville. Gary was born July 14, 1954 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Virginia (Harrell) Easterday Thompson and William Gilgien. He retired from Bob Sumerel Tire Company and Grace Lutheran Church as custodian, where he was a long time member. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working, camping and golf. Gary is survived by his wife, Beth, of 44 years, children Cheryl (Jason) Phillips, Jeremy (Julie Than) Gilgien, Bethany (Terry) Douglas and Rachel Gilgien. Nine grandchildren Aliyah Phillips; Deziree, Jeremy, Brayden, Jocelyn and Jenella Gilgien; Lynn, Hailey, and Matthew Douglas; sisters Lenora West and Anna (Arrista) Spotts; brothers Joe and Kevin Gilgien; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia (Harrell) Easterday Thompson, Charles Easterday; Bill (Betty) Gilgien, his in-laws Earl and Sue Pennington; grandparents, one brother, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 28, from 4 pm – 8 pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 65 East Columbus Street in Thornville.
