A funeral service celebrating the life of George Roland Stimel, age 75, of Newark, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Pastor Lisa Willey officiating. Military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.George was born September 30, 1939 in Coonville, Ohio to the late James Roy and Nora Ellen (Thomas) Stimel. He passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at his home.A 1957 graduate of Nelsonville High School, George was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He was the owner and operator of Stimel Heating and Air Conditioning for 40 years. George was a member of the Moose Lodge and the B-52 Association and was an avid fan of NASCAR and Ohio State Buckeyes football. George was a proud American and participated in many missions with the Patriot Guard Riders honoring our fallen soldiers.He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ruth A. (Thrasher) Stimel, whom he married June 3, 1961; and by his three adoring daughters, Jean (Rick) Bailey of Newark, Melissa Wells of New Albany and Leslie (Tim Morell) Stimel of Worthington; his beloved grandchildren, SFC Joshua Barr (Amber Snook) of Clarksville, Tenn., Sgt. Evan Miller (Kayla Rodney) of Lima and 2nd Lt. Colin Miller of Columbus, Georgia and Michael Morell and Eleanor Morell of Worthington; and his cherished great-grandson, Luke Michael Miller of Lima; sisters, Jean Curatti of Columbus and Ellen (Don) Dault of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Joey and Timmy Stimel; and by six brothers and four sisters.Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for the Stimel family.
