Gerald E. "Jerry" Buxton

January 20, 1934 — April 9, 2017

A funeral service celebrating the life of Gerald E. Jerry Buxton, age 83 of Newark, will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Claude Mathis officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Jerry was born in Miami Springs, FL. on January 21, 1934 to the late Benjamin H. and Carol F. (Wyeth) Buxton. He passed away at his Granville Street residence peacefully with his family by his side. Jerry moved to Newark in 1946, while in the seventh grade. He excelled in track and football and graduated from Newark High School, Class of 1952. He then enlisted in the Naval Reserves for eight years. He was a prominent business owner of J-Bees Meats, the Buxton Tavern (over 30 years) and the Riverview Condominiums. His passion was buying and selling real estate. He loved teaching his children fishing, camping, shooting and he owned several boats. He was proud to have been a Boy Scout Master. He was a member of Crusader Lodge # 720 for 54 years. He belonged to the Valley of Columbus, AASR and 32nd Degree. He enjoyed going on numerous cruises with his wife of 44 years, where they enjoyed taking many family members and good friends with them. He loved going on golf trips with his two sons, especially at the Atwood Resort. He also enjoyed owning fine automobiles, loved animals, especially dogs and was a member of the Licking County Humane Society. Survivors include his children, Jim G. Buxton, David L. Buxton, Susan J (Randy) McDaniel; Amy E. Buxton and Dave M. (Betty) Buxton; grandchildren, Christy, Brian, Shane, Robbie, Matthew, Joe, Jerry and Jenny; great grandchildren, Connor, Austin, Kiersten, Nathan, Alexis, Alicia, Lindsay, Aiden, Kayleigh, Ethan and Haley; numerous other grandchildren; great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Ruth (Lucas) Buxton, whom he married November 7, 1970; and five siblings. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jerry to the Licking County Humane Society, 825 Thornwood Dr., Heath, Ohio 43056.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Jerry and the Buxton family.
