Gerald F. Hughes, 66, of Hebron, passed away peacefully at his home on July 9, 2022, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 4, 1956 to the late Ernest Hughes, Sr., and Rose (Reagan) McDole. A Memorial Service, celebrating Gerald’s life will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Jacksontown United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mark Raaker officiating. Gerald was a member of Jacksontown United Methodist Church, where he was active with the food pantry. Prior to retirement, Gerald worked 42 years in Reynoldsburg, Ohio at Bridgestone/Firestone as a mechanic, making many friends of his customers, coworkers and managers. He loved traveling to Topsail, NC with friends and family, sitting in the sun and turning red as red could be. He also loved looking for shark’s teeth, big and tiny, which he learned this from his step-daughter, Stacey McKee. They would spend hours looking and digging in the sand for them. He also enjoyed tinkering with wood. Survivors include his loving wife, Deborah (Spivey) Hughes; children, Mary (Jeff) Vanest, Misty (Anthony) Lorenzo, Mindy (Chase) Mason and Steven (Kayleigh) Smith; brother, Ernest Hughes, Jr.; grandchildren, Austin Myers, Peyton Vanest, Carter Vanest, Hunter Burdette, Tanner Burdette, Romeo Lorenzo, Marissa Lorenzo, Nicholas Lorenzo, Ryleigh (Bailey Orr) McKee, Jenna Smith and Cash Smith; niece, Aubree Hughes; great grandchild, Elliana Orr; life long friend, Steve Porteus; special friends, Brian and Melody Neely and James and Michelle Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jackson Vanest and step-daughter, Stacey McKee.
