A funeral service celebrating the life of Gerald P. “Jerry” Burkart, 82, of Hebron, will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at First Community Church, 4381 Walnut Road, Buckeye Lake. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Kirkersville chapel of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, 285 E. Main Street, Kirkersville. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Prior to retirement, he was a forklift operator for the Kroger Company for 35 years. He was a member of the First Community Church in Buckeye Lake, where he was active with the Promise Keepers men’s group, along with the choir, Vacation Bible School, and Camp Andrew. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching baseball and football, but most important was the time he spent with his loving family, especially doting on his grandchildren. Jerry loved everyone, knew no strangers and was a father figure to many. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Geneva P. (Nolen) Burkart, whom he married July 21, 1962; son, Richard E. (Michelle) Burkart; daughter, Maggie T. L. Blade; brother, David (Marilyn) Burkart; grandchildren, Emily Burkart, Jordan Blade, Evan Burkart and Noah Blade; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, friends and many others that called him Papa Jerry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larry Blade; sister, Virginia Hare; and brother, Robert Burkart. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jerry to the National Parkinson’s Foundation of Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Jerry and his family.
