Gerald "Jerry" Smith

A funeral service, celebrating the life of Gerald Jerry Smith, 86, of Newark, will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors being observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.Jerry was born in Newark, Ohio on April 17, 1929 to the late Leo and Bessie (Frazier) Smith. He passed away on September 17, 2015, while surrounded by his loving family.Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Prior to retirement, he was a police officer with the Newark Police Department. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, going to casinos, and CB radios, where his handle was Race Track Jack. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family.Survivors include his two daughters, Sherry K. (Bennie) Clark and Diane M. Moore; girlfriend, Norma Jean Henningsen; grandchildren, David, Sheila, Melissa, Wayne, Chris, Roddell, Sharandon, Trayvon LeeLee, Mikey and Shauna; great grandchildren, Brandi, Megan, Kelsey, Kyler, Garrett, Jace and Zayden; sisters, Dorothy Martin and Joanne (Jerry) Steffen; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Franziska (Mader) Smith in 2008; brothers, William, Russell, Donald and Jack; and sister, Jean.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jerry to Foundation For Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058-0430.Friends may call at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Friday, September 18th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Jerry and his family.
