Gladys was born October 16, 1934 in Newark, Ohio to the late Cecil Augustus and Thelma (Moore) Bowers. She passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Embassy of Newark following a brief illness.
Gladys was a 1952 graduate of Hopewell High School. She retired from American National Can in June of 2001 where she was a clerk and bookkeeper in accounts receivable. A member of the AFL-CIO since 1975, she was Secretary/Treasurer for the Newark branch for several years. Gladys was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newark since June of 1954, and participated in activities with the Alice Circle and Women of the ELCA, as well as attended the Friday Bible Study at the church nearly every week. Over the years, Gladys was an avid league bowler, and at one time was part of the Sunday Nighters bowling league where she bowled several 200 games as well as a game of straight spares. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed walking, studying the Bible, embroidery, puzzles, and decorating for each holiday. Gladys had a very kind and generous nature, and we will all miss her sweet smile.
