Glenna Leota Black

A graveside inurnment service for Glenna Leota Black, age 102, of Hebron, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, at Licking Cemetery with Pastor Jim Addy officiating.Glenna was born February 16, 1913, in Newark, Ohio to the late John C. and Elcy (Tatman) Brown. She passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at her home.Glenna was a 1932 graduate of Pataskala High School and was the oldest surviving graduate of the school. She also attended Capital University. In the late 40s and early 50s, Glenna was a secretary at WCLT Radio and then moved her employment to Denison University. She then worked as a clerk at Edmistens Book Store in Newark. She was then hired by the Ohio Department of Agriculture Division of Weights and Measures in Reynoldsburg as head secretary for John Stackhouse where she was employed until her retirement.Glenna was a member of the Licking Baptist Church near Hebron, First Baptist Church of Newark, Licking County Farm Bureau and the Canasta Card Club. Glenna was an avid gardener who loved to plant anything and took great pride in her yard. She also graded eggs on her husbands egg farm. She kept an immaculate home and enjoyed painting, crocheting, sewing, playing the piano and singing, playing Go Fish and other board games with her grandchildren and completing big puzzles. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing stories with others. She loved her granddaughters and their children and was very instrumental with their upbringing.She is survived by a son, John (Wendy) Black of Hebron; grandchildren, Amber (Rick) Shugert and Summer Black; great-granddaughter, Meleigha Hill, Caden Shugert and Beau Shugert; sister, Mary (Bob) Willard; and nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence M. Black, on January 7, 1987; a sister, Mildred Evans; and brothers-in-law, John Evans and Richard Black.On behalf of Glenna, the family would like to thank Shirley Colley who was Glennas caregiver for many years, Chief Jack Stickradt and the crew of the Hebron EMS, LMH who saved her life many times, Dr. Root and all the caregivers and nurses at Hospice of Central Ohio who were professional experts with their work, Dr. Rene Blaha who was Glennas family doctor who kept her going far beyond her time and her friends at First Baptist Church of Newark for the kind cards and gifts that she received.
