A funeral service for Harley Fred Parrill, age 77, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, with Pastor Rusty Foley officiating. Burial will take place in Wilson Cemetery. Friends may call from 12-1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.Fred was born March 19, 1938 in Claylick, Ohio to the late Harley K. and Edna L. (Trimble) Parrill. He passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Flint Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Newark.Fred attended Hazelwood Elementary and Lincoln Middle School, graduating from Newark High School in 1957. He was employed with Owens Corning and then Roper Manufacturing from 1959 until it closed in 1975, making lawn mowers for Sears/Craftsman. He was a foreman starting in 1970, supervising over 50 employees. He helped Roper open plants in Orangeburg, SC, McRae, GA and Swainsboro, GA. He was a foreman at Walker Manufacturing, making exhaust systems for Ford from 1976 until it closed in 1995, supervising over 250 employees. He was a hard worker who went from $300 in 1974 to retired at 57.Fred raced motorcycles in his youth with his late older brother Jerry. He was a long-suffering Cleveland Browns fan and was a proud American who enjoyed the gift of gab, antiques, food, music, sports and action films.He will be sorely missed by his loving family including his wife of 40 years, Joyce E. (Sayre) Parrill, whom he married December 1, 1974; son, Mark; daughters, Cyndi, Debbie and Chrissy; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for the Parrill family.
