Harold Mason

August 25, 1948 — July 23, 2024

Harold Elmon Mason, 75, of Thornville, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 23, 2024, at
home. He was born August 25, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Earnest Elmon and Leana
(Howard) Mason. He was a 1966 graduate of Lakewood High School, Hebron, Ohio. He served
in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict as a 16C20, Hercules Fire Control Crewman,
stationed in Vincenza, Italy. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, he worked at
Structurlite Plastics in Hebron, where he served as the Union President. He later worked for
Huntington Bank, from which he retired in 2008. He also earned a Bachelor’s Degree from
Central Ohio Technical College.
Harold was a member of the Thornville United Methodist Church, and had a special place in
the Church Choir. Singing was just one of his many passions. He also enjoyed fishing, board
games, spending time with his family, and his Ohio State Buckeyes. He was an avid card player
who playfully enjoyed stacking the deck to his advantage. Harold adored his grandchildren, who
called him “Mr. President '' and played “Hail to the Chief '' when he entered the room. Harold’s
orneriness was legendary and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Harold is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon Lee (Rausch) Mason, whom he married on
January 29, 1972; his daughter Jennifer E. (Timothy) Rickey; grandchildren Emaleigh Rickey
(Kristian Kiger), Jacob Rickey, Zachary Rickey, Andrew Rickey, and Nathan Rickey (Macrae
Wilkins); Sisters in law, Susan (William) Boyer and Tonya Parker; and several nieces and
nephews.
A Celebration of Life is planned for November, 2024.
