A home going service, celebrating the life of Hazel Johnson, age 84, of Newark, will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Mario Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church, 383 Washington St., Newark, one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Hazel went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family at her residence. She was born in Tyler, Alabama on September 1, 1933 to the late John Lee and Rutha Mae (Scott) Spivey. Hazel was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She was a caring and devoted homemaker to her family. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her loving son, David (Darlene) Spivey; brother, Mark Spivey; grandchildren, Sheila Washington, Fred Washington, Angelo Spivey and Nicole Hann; son-in-law, Fred Washington Sr.; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Johnson; daughter, Sheila Diane Washington; grandson, Garland Spivey; brother, John Spivey, Jr.; and sisters, Margaree Bonner and Corbet Battle.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Hazel and her family.
