Helen Mcgowan

Helen Virginia Fulton McGowan, 95, of Pataskala, died on June 16, 2016. She was born January 29, 1921, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of A. Crawford and Mazie (McDowell) Fulton, She graduated from Peters Township High School in 1939, She also attended Penn Commercial Business College in Washington, PA. for 2 years. She moved to Pataskala, Ohio in 1959 when her husband became the first manager of the Pataskala 84 Lumber Company. She was a long time member of the Pataskala Presbyterian Church, and then became a member of the Jersey Baptist Church. She was active in the Watkins Memorial High School Moms Club in the 1960s. She worked in the meat department at Roseberrys Royal Blue beginning in 1963 and continued working for Gardners Grocery Store. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lewis McGowan (1980) and one grandson, Michael James McGowan, of Utah. She was proud that all five of her children graduated from college. Surviving her are four sons: Dennis (Sue), John (Mary Grace), and Lonnie, all of Pataskala, James (Ruth) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and one daughter Lynn (Barry) Mathis of Maryville, Tn. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday evening June 24, 2016, from 5-8 pm and one hour before the 11:00 am funeral service on Saturday June 25 in the Chapel where she worshiped at The Jersey Baptist Church, 13260 Morse Road. Burial will follow in the Pataskala Cemetery. The family prefers memorial contributions be directed to the West Licking Historical Society, PO Box 1025, Pataskala, Ohio 43062.
