A funeral service celebrating the life of Herbert Gordon Marriott, age 77, of Thornville, will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, at the Thornville home of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Doug Linn officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, 56 South Main Street in Thornville. Inurnment will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, at Community Gardens Cemetery in Somerset, where military honors will be observed.Herbert was born June 15, 1938 in Newark, Ohio to the late Wilbur Jay and Bertha Ellen (Chidester) Marriott. He passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at his home.Herb was a veteran of the United States Navy and faithfully served his country during Vietnam. He retired from the Navy after 22 years of service and also did carpentry work. He was a member of the Buckeye Lake Moose Lodge #2434 and was a life member of both the Amvets Post #51 in Thornville and the Buckeye Lake VFW Post #1388. He enjoyed woodworking and was known for making beautiful clocks and sculpted wood owls and eagles.He is survived by four children, Richard L. (Elizabeth) Marriott of Glossop, England, Teresa (Victor) Sevilla of Las Vegas, NV, Pamela Reynolds and Wilbur (Trisa) Marriott, all of Frankfort, KY; nine grandchildren; three great-grandsons; best friend and brother, George Williams and his wife, Pattie, and their daughter, Melissa McDonnell; his little dog, FeeBee; three brothers-in-law, David, Danny and Tommy Martin; sister-in-law, Charlene Combs Marriott; several nieces and nephews; step-daughters, Dianna (Randy) Wood of Thornville, Christina Wood Bowersox of Lubbock, Texas and Barbara (Tom) Wood of Thornville; five step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Janet (Meade) Marriott on April 8, 1989 and Phyllis I. (Wood) Marriott, on May 21, 2014; two brothers, Franklin and James Marriott; two sisters, Ruth McKnight and Dorothy Belton; and a step-granddaughter.Memorial contributions may be made to the Buckeye Lake VFW Post #1388.Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service in Thornville is honored to care for Herb and his family.
