Howard E. Christy

Howard E. Christy passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at OSU Hospital at the age of 78. He was surrounded by his wife and four sons.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Edgar Christy; mother, Edna (Burris) Christy; brother, Harold Christy; sister-in-law, Janice Christy; and nephew, Terry Christy – all of Garrison, Kentucky; and niece, Gale Christy-Harnish of Deltona, Florida.

Howard is survived by his wife, Barbara “Bobbi” Christy, of Thornville; two sons, Jeffrey Allen Christy (wife, Stacey) of Lewis Center and Shawn Christy (wife, Kellie) of Centerburg; two stepsons, David B. Dennison of Canton and Steven Dennison (wife, Geneva) of Troy; daughter, Nancy Meadows-Bickers (husband, Tony) of Christiana, Tennessee; brother, William Christy (wife, Charlene) of Sunbury, (formerly of Garrison, Kentucky); niece, Lisa Christy-Sanfillipo of Johnstown; and nephew, Tom Christy (wife, Cecilia) of Bayonet Point, Florida. Howard cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all his heart.

Howard graduated from Lewis County High School in Vanceburg, Kentucky. He worked for 37 years at Timken Roller Bearing Company in Columbus, Ohio. He enjoyed 23 years of retired life on the shores of Buckeye Lake – his dream come true – and became friends to many, many people in the Thornville, Ohio area. His passions were boating, gardening, cooking, and Ohio State athletics. He has left an empty hole in many hearts, but also a lifetime of wonderful memories.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at the Thornville Chapel of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service, 56 South Main St., Thornville. A visitation will be observed from 2-4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A celebration of Howard’s life will follow at the Thornport Amvets Post 51, 9293 Thorn Twp. Road 79 NW, Thornville. The family prefers that contributions in Howard’s memory be sent to the James Cancer Hospital at The Ohio State University. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
