Ila Jean Mason

A funeral service, celebrating the life of Ila Jean Allen Mason, of Hebron, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in the Hebron Christian Church, with her Pastor, the Rev. Chris Whitehead as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Hebron Cemetery. Ila died peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2016 in Newark, following a brief illness. She was born October 28, 1932 in Columbus, the daughter of the late George C. and Mary M. (Miller) Allen. She was a graduate of Hebron H.S., class of 1950, retired from the Lakewood Schools after 32 years of service, and after retirement was a substitute secretary in the Newark School system for 16 years. Ila was an active member of the Hebron community: including 25 year member and past president of Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Eagon Chapter #123, O.E.S., Founding board member of the Buckeye Lake Historical Museum, Hebron Veterans Memorial Committee, Lakewood retirees breakfast, Lakewood Hall of Fame Inductee. Ila was also a 50 + year member of the Hebron Christian Church and filled many leadership roles in the church including Elder, Clerk, Chairman of the board, Christian Womens fellowship, Sunday and bible school and funeral and fellowship luncheons and meals. She is survived by her loving family: Don (Jan) Mason of Hebron, Den Mason of Hebron, Tim (Patsy) Mason of St. Louisville, Jeff (Debbie) Mason of Abilene, TX., Patty Mason (Mrs. Terry) of Hebron, Chris (Michelle) Mason of Florida, Clifford (Rose) Mason of Hebron and Connie Mason of Hebron; siblings John (Polly) Allen of Maryville, TN., Jim (Peg) Allen of Lake Placid, FL., George Bob (Wanda) Allen of Crawfordsville, IN. and Carol (Chuck) Bragg of Newark, along with her 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Wilbur Mason in 1993, son Terry Mason and daughter-in-law Gini Mason, sisters Esther Mae Allen, Donna Kraner and Mary Lou Houston. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Kirkersville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, 285 E Main St. in Kirkersville, where Eagon Chapter #123 OES will hold Eastern Star services at 7:45 p.m. The family prefers that memorials be directed to the Hebron Christian Church P.O. Box 736, Hebron, OH 43025 oror the Lakewood Education Foundation 9331 Lancer Road, Hebron, Ohio 43025.in her memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Please do not send flowers.
