J. Marjorie "Marge" Jones

February 12, 1929 — July 22, 2015

J. Marjorie Marge Jones, age 86, of Heath, formerly of New York City, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Chapel Grove Inn in Heath. Marge was born February 13, 1928 in Jacksontown, Ohio to the late Harry W. and Myrtle (Walker) Jones.Marge was a graduate of Jacksontown High School and Wittenburg University. After graduating from Wittenberg, Marjorie moved to New York City where she successfully pursued a career in publishing. She became highly regarded, especially in childrens literature, and was employed with G.P. Putnam, Prentice Hall, Holiday House and, most recently, served as the Chief Editor of the Junior Literary Guild. Marge spent the major portion of her life in New York City and returned to Licking County in 2011 where she resided at Chapel Grove.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harry Nelson Jones and Charles Dayton Jones; and sisters, Helen Griffith and Janice Stebelski.She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Corinne Naden and Lillian Gerhardt.At her request, there will be no calling hours or service observed.Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio or to Dawes Arboretum.The Kirkersville home of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service is honored to care for Marge and her family.
