Jack Collins

A funeral service celebrating the life of Jack Collins, of Thornville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, at the Thornville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will follow in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Amvets Post #51.

Jack passed away early Wednesday, August 1, 2018 in Newark, following an extended illness. He was born in Vinton County, Ohio on April 24, 1938, the son of the late Robert and Dora Belle (Ogan) Collins. Jack was a graduate of Nelsonville York High School class of 1956, served honorably in the United States Air Force, and retired after a forty year career as an Analyst with Lucent Technologies in Columbus. He was a life member of Amvets Post #51 in Thornport and the Perry Co. Coonhunters.

He is survived by his loving family: children, Rick J. Heaberlin, Minnie (Paul) Hester, Bruce Collins and Jacqueline (Jeff) Fields; his grandchildren, Linda (Andy) Kruse, Christopher (Cassi) Paxton, Beau (Danielle) Heaberlin, Sarah Heaberlin, Jason (Elizabeth) Fields, Kailyn and Maddy Collins and Nicholas and Amanda Hester; 12 great-grandchildren; his special friend, Sharon Neiderhoff; three brothers-in-law, Robert Litz, Ronald (Betty) Litz   and Elmer Brafford; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steven Edward Heaberlin; his wife, Mae Collins; along with his four brothers, Mont, Murl, Paul and Robert; two sisters-in-law, Judith Litz and Anna Brafford; and brother-in-law, Harold and Louise Litz.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 3, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home, 56 South Main Street in Thornville.

The family prefers that memorial contributions be directed to the Amvets Post #51 Honor Guard, c/o Dana Wilson, 9293 Thorn Twp. Road 79, Thornville, OH 43076.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Select Specialty Hospital in Newark for their loving care of Jack.
