Jack "Mayburg" Maybury, 73, of Hebron, passed away September 13, 2023, in the James Cancer Hospital, Columbus, following complications from the Whipple surgery. He was born in Croton on August 15, 1950, the son of the late Jack and Dorothy (Denty) Maybury.
Jack was a graduate of Johnstown High School, class of 1968 and Mount Union College, 1972. He was a teacher and coach at Lakewood High School for over 30 years. He had a lasting impact on the lives of his many students and athletes he encountered throughout his career. He was a member of the Johnstown Hall of Fame and the Lakewood Hall of Fame. He also was a member of the Buckeye Lake Eagles #2801.
Jack enjoyed boating, traveling and gambling trips. He walked his grand dog Oreo to the Hebron post office every day. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports and perform.
He is survived by his loving family: his wife, the former Joan Layton, whom he married on July 27, 1973; his sons Jarrod (Tasha) Maybury and Jace (Janessa) Maybury; his grandchildren Keirston and Layton Maybury and Maddie, Braden and Colton Castle and Alaina Muncy; sisters Brenda (Jim) Hill, Patty (Mike) O'Loughlin; and brother-in-law James (Debbie) Layton; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 17, 2023, from 2-4 p.m. at the Kirkersville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, where funeral services celebrating his life will follow at 4:00 p.m. with James Layton as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery at a later date.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be directed to the Lakewood Athletic Boosters. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
