James (Jim) T. Bascom, 92, of Granville, formerly of Kirkersville, Ohio, stepped into the arms of God on October 15, 2023. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, a true servant of God. Those remaining are his wife Charlene Bascom, daughters Melody (Dennis) Frey and Cynthia Bascom, brother John (Lois) Bascom and sister-in-law Betty (Pat) Rose. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul and Jean Parsons. Jim was a meteorologist while serving in the Navy Reserves and was a top-performing car salesperson in Newark before joining his father in business. Jim worked seven days a week to make the family business, Licking Poultry Farm, successful. He was among the first farmers in the country to design and build a conveyor belt system to mechanically collect eggs and bypassed the egg dealers by delivering fresh eggs directly to grocery stores, restaurants and other businesses. Jim's gregarious nature enabled him to develop friendships easily everywhere he went, including customers on his egg route, the Amish whom he worked alongside to build his home, and the good residents and caregivers at Middleton Senior Community. Jim and Charlene enjoyed 71 years of marriage with 38 of those in retirement. Jim loved planning road trips throughout the US and Canada with Charlene and their beloved Dalmatian, Molly. Later in life, he took many trips touring the world with his treasured family. Known as a man devoted to Christ, Jim was a lifelong Methodist. He served as lay speaker, Sunday school teacher and board chair at Kirkersville United Methodist Church and later was a faithful member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Granville. A private celebration of his life is planned for a later date.
