Funeral services, celebrating the life of James Donald Hughes, Jr., 35, of Reynoldsburg, will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 2, 2018, in the chapel of The Kirkersville home of HOSKINSON Funeraland Cremation Service, with Pastor Glen Gram, pastor of the Crossway Community Churchand chaplain of the Kirkersville VillagePolice Department as celebrant; with burial to follow in the Kirkersville Cemetery. James, The police chief of the Village of Kirkersville, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 25, 2018, at his residence. He was born January 1, 1983, in Columbus, the son of James Donald Hughes Sr. and Tammy Sue Baker, who survive him. He was a graduate of Reynoldsburg H.S. Class of 2001, and the Eastland Career Academy Police officers program. He had worked as a policeman in Brice and also security officer for OhioHealth, and deputy Sheriff in Fairfield County prior to his appointment as chief for Kirkersville earlier this year.He enjoyed fishing and hunting, in addition to spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Morinda, whom he married on May 16, 2015, his children James Donald III J.D., Leland Danny and Lailah Loney; his step-father David Cunningham, his sisters Amber Baker, Jessah (Floyd) McDuffie, Karlee (Curtis) Johnson, his brother David April Cunningham; grandparents Arthur and Deborah Erb; along with many uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Grandpa and Grandma Baker, one uncle Sonny Baker, and his good friends Ryan Buyer and P.T. Highfield.
