A memorial service celebrating the life of James Joseph Jim Walser, of Glenford, who passed at the age of 60, will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Thornville chapel of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, 56 S. Main Street, Thornville. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the memorial service on Monday, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Jim was born in Newark, Ohio on October 27, 1956 to the late Maurice G. and Betty J. (Cotterman) Walser. He passed away on May 4, 2017 at the Thornville Health and Rehabilitation Center. Jim took immense pride in his daughters Sarah and Karah. He enthusiastically shared a love of each daughters career and life path. Laura, his wife and his family brought him boundless joy. He built his family and home in the same area in which his great great grandfather constructed covered bridges that still stand today. Always warm and welcoming, if you called the house, Jim might answer the phone with the greeting and family joke, Jims Bait and Beauty Shop. If you stopped by on a summer evening, Jim would be busy in his garden and in the fall, the Salsa King would be hard at work. At any season, you would be sure to leave with the bounty of his garden. If you visited on the weekends, you probably ended up in the garage or barn or yard telling tall tales while Jim tackled his latest project. Jims passions included his football career, music, fishing and boating. Though a bit of a rebel, Jim could be counted on to join with his brother, sisters and friends in the customs that mattered like Octoberfest or a summer get-away at Chincoteague Island. Around the holidays, Jim prepared cream pie, just as his mother Betty had made it. Jim attended the University of Toledo and followed the footsteps of his father, Maurice G., by working in telecommunications. Jims enduring commitment to family and friends enriched our lives. Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Laura R. (McCabe) Walser, whom he married October 8, 1988; his twin daughters, Sarah Rene Walser and Karah Lea (Bobby) Cundiff; his siblings, Corrine Morrison, Debra (Steven) Mechling and Donald (Peggy) Walser; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jim to Greystone Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Jim and the Walser family.
