James Roy Land

November 23, 1947 — January 14, 2021

James Roy Land, 73, of Heath, passed away in the arms of his wife, while surrounded by his daughters on January 14, 2021 after a courageous battle with COVID-19. He was lovingly cared for by the earthly angels at Licking Memorial Hospital, COVID ICU Unit. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on November 23, 1947 to the late Baer Mitchell and Martha Grace (Couch) Land. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he led the family with his generosity, compassion and love. He dedicated his life and career as a school psychologist, for over 30 years, to helping others, especially the children in the Newark City Schools. After Jim’s retirement, he volunteered with the Heath Sertoma, assisting in many fund-raising events to support those less fortunate. He was passionate about serving others. Jim was an avid reader, had a passion for new technology and was a devoted Ohio State Buckeye fan. Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Brenda Pellegrini Land, whom he married October 1, 1978; daughters and sons-in-law, Mackenzie (Dustin) Matthews and Mallory (Kyle) Land-Libby; his beloved grandchildren, Xavier, Macksen and Ellyott Matthews, and Bowen and Bram Libby, who called him Pabo; sister, Susan Land; his faithful furry companions Eva and Rowdy; and the Jets. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Alice Hughes; and close friend, Doug Martin We would like to thank the many friends, neighbors and family who supported us with their faith and love during this time. Due to the pandemic, Jim’s final wishes were to have private services for the family. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jim to Heath Sertoma, PO Box 2006, Heath, Ohio 43056 or to Karis’ Cause. Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service is honored to care for Jim and his family.
