A funeral service celebrating the life of James Alexander Pierce, age 90, of Newark, will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Clifford Mason officiating. Burial will take place in Newark Memorial Gardens where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 18, at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark. Jim was born June 7, 1931 in Muskingum County, Ohio to the late James and Lucille Elizabeth (Henry) Pierce. He passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Licking Memorial Hospital. Jim was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Newark Processing in 1993 after 39 years of service where he had been a heavy equipment mechanic. Jim enjoyed reading and going for car rides. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Patricia Ann “Pat” (White) Pierce, whom he married April 2, 1964; son, Donald “Don” Pierce (Kathryn “Kat” Smyers) of Newark; sisters-in-law, Delores White of Heath, Carrol Arlene Houck of Columbus, and Kay L. White of Riverside, California; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Weldon “Bud” Pierce and Raymond Pierce.
