James E Sheets, 96, of Hebron, passed away early Thursday morning, May 20, 2021 in Newark following a brief illness. He was born in Hebron on June 17, 1924 the son of the late Vincent and Goldie Jane (Brookover) Sheets. He was a graduate of Hebron High School, class of 1942, served honorably in the US Army in WWII. He was retired as a carpenter with Local Union #200 in Columbus.
An active member of the community, he was a life member of Buckeye Lake Eagles #2801, member of Hebron Post #285 American Legion, and former member of VFW Post #1388 at Buckeye Lake. James loved to joke and was well known as the “Puzzleman” working with the boy scouts at the Ohio State Fair. He also enjoyed his member with the Downtown Dance Club of Columbus for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen in 1993, and his brother Bill.
He is survived by his sons John (Paula) Sheets of Newark, Jeff Sheets of Hebron and his sister Martha Morrison of Newark, along with Grandchildren.
Graveside services with Full military honors by the Licking County Veterans Alliance will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 12:00 Noon in the Kirkersville Cemetery, where James will be laid to rest with his wife Kathleen. Pastor Kevin Koskie will officiate.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be directed to the Licking County Veterans Alliance, PO Box 854, Newark, Ohio 43058.
