James Travis Jim Britton, age 67, of Newark, passed away on May 10, 2016 at the Arlington Care Center. Jim was born August 4, 1948 in McKenzie, Tennessee to the late Cecil Hooper Britton and Mildred Florence (Futrell) Britton.Jim faithfully served his country in the United States Army in Germany during Vietnam. He was a certified arborist and had been employed with Dawes Arboretum and Wilsons Garden Center. He had also been employed with Dynacraft/Pal Joey Golf and, most recently, had been employed as a supervisor with ODOT at the I-70 East and West Rest Areas. Jim enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his friends.He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Diana M. (Baker) Britton, whom he married August 8, 1988; daughter, Sam (Cody) Shepherd of Newark; step-son, Jerry Rogers of Newark; granddaughter, Alyssa Rogers; great-granddaughter, Emma May Albertson; brothers, Billy Joe (Dottie) Britton of Newark, Harold T. (Julie) Britton of Mount Vernon, Robert E. (Judy) Britton of Hamlet, NC and Roger D. (Cindy) Britton of Mascot, TN; sisters, Martha S. (John) Byers and Patricia A. Roberts, all of Newark; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Brian and Brad Britton.At his request, there will be no visitation or service observed.Memorial contributions may be made to Tridia Hospice or Dawes Arboretum.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Jim and his family.
