A funeral service, celebrating the life of James W. Jim Fortney, Jr. age 51, of Newark, will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Dave Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Perryton Cemetery. Casual attire is requested. Jim was born in Newark, Ohio on February 2, 1966 to the late James W. Fortney, Sr. and Carol (Shryock) Forney, of Heath. He passed away at Grant Medical Center on August 31, 2017, due to an accident. Jim was a self-employed floor covering installing expert. He enjoyed go cart racing, was an avid racing fan and was also an avid Michigan fan. Most important in his life was spending time with his family and friends and especially enjoyed doting on his grandchildren. In addition to his mother, survivors include his loving wife of 27 years and life-long companion of 37 years, Mary C. (Armstrong) Fortney, whom he married November 28, 1990; children, Krissy Fortney, Tiffany (Jason) Knott, Cassie (Cody) Stradley and Allison Fortney; grandchildren, Lincoln, Jamison, Kali, Miles and Allie; brother, William Bill Fortney; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Fortney Williams. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jim to Lifeline of Ohio or American Diabetes Association.
