Janet Kay Whittington

A funeral service celebrating the life of Janet Kay (Whiteside) Whittington, age 62, of Heath, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2, with Pastor Stephen Hughes officiating. Private entombment will take place in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark.

Janet was born January 13, 1962 in Newark, Ohio. She passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Janet was a 1980 graduate of Newark High School. She retired from Englefield Oil Co. after 25 years of service where she had been the head of payroll. Janet loved pleasing people through food and her passion was cooking and baking. She loved to try new recipes and was especially known for her hot sauce and sopapillas. She enjoyed shopping with her mom and loved her cats, Ben and Jerry. Her family meant the world to her. Janet was a member of the Newark Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Harley Whittington, whom she married April 10, 1982; children, Haylee Elizabeth Whittington of Newark and Parker James “Jimmy” Whittington and his wife Nellie of Newark; grandchildren, Jayce, Kairi, and Phelix; her mother, Jane A. (Siegle) Whiteside of Newark; brother and sister-in-law, John and June Whiteside of Newark; mother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth (Burchard) Whittington; sisters-in-law, Anna Gates and Mary Joe Norman, both of Newark, and brother-in-law, William Whittington of Utica; her favorite niece, Amberlynn Murphy, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and cousins; best friends, Harriett Wood and Jerri Bachmann; and many other friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Scotty Whiteside; and her nephew, Scotty Whiteside.
