A funeral service, celebrating the life of Jason Edward Smith, age 37, of Thornville, will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lancaster, with Pastor Phillip W. Manning as celebrant. Burial will follow at Blendon Township Cemetery in Westerville, where full military graveside rites will be conducted.Jason was born March 14, 1976, in Chillicothe and died on Friday, March 22, 2013, in Lancaster, following an extended illness.Jason proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Cushing DD-985. He truly loved life and with a free spirit enjoyed everything he did. He loved spending time with his family and friends; and with his witty, keen sense of humor he spread his joy. History was his life, which with his photographic memory could recall almost any event, in great detail, in history that was asked of him. He enjoyed technical things, including computers and electronics. His favorite toys in life were G.I. Joe and the Transformers. He also was an avid OSU football fan.During Jasons last months of his struggle with cancer, he greatly impacted the lives of many by serving at The FairHope Hospice Center in Lancaster, where he passed away. He spoke inspiration into the lives of everyone he touched!He is survived by his loving family: father and step-mother, James and Karen Smith and mother, Peg Hawett; half-brother, Chris Nickell; sisters, Honey Lea Smith of Thornville, Mia (Phillip) Lutton of Hillsboro; Nephews, William and Asher; Niece, Emma Reese; and former wife, Kiersten Salvo.He was preceded in death by his younger brother Jeremy; grandparents, Betty and Wilbert Smith, Marvin and Wilma Nickell, Walter Adams; uncles, Mark Smith and Gary Adams.The family would like to thank all those who helped Jason and the family during his illness.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, from 5:00 8:00 p.m. at the Thornville home of the HOSKINSON-SCHOEDINGER Funeral and Cremation service, located at 56 S.
