Jens D. Bertelsen

Jens D. Bertelsen, age 84, of Fur, Denmark, formerly of Granville, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024 in Denmark. He was born April 16, 1940 in Vejle, Denmark to the late Jens Henriksen Bertelsen and the late Edel Mary (Larsen) Bertelsen.

Jens had an outstanding and inquiring mind, allowing him to design machinery and resolve complex systems. He became known in the industry as the person who could design and configure difficult solutions. He was sought out by NASA, resolving a glitch they were having with a part for their Mars project. He always remained humble about his abilities.

Jens was a very generous person and had a wonderful sense of humor along with a beautiful smile and hearty laugh. He loved history, listening to classical music, reading, and playing the accordion.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Bertelsen, whom he married September 25, 1999; and by sons, Lars (Jette) Piil, Sven (Laila) Bertelsen, Jens Bertelsen, and Michael Petersen; daughter, Victoria Yurjevic; grandchildren, Esben, Oskar, Jakob, Josefine, Frederik, Caroline, and Liam; sister-in-law, Annagrethe Bertelsen; nieces and nephews, Michael (Julia) Bertelsen, Susanne (Bill) Payne, Ernst (Marie) Mikkelsen, Bent (Sheri) Mikkelsen, and Elizabeth (Phil) Feland; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bent Bertelsen; and sister and brother-in-law, Tove & Ernst Mikkelsen.

A private celebration of Jens’ life was held in Granville. He was buried on August 28, 2024 in Fur Kirkegaard in Fur, Denmark.
