Jerry David Preece

June 17, 1950 — August 6, 2024

Jerry David Preece, 74, of Baltimore, born June 17, 1950, in Mingo County, WV and died August 6th, 2024 at Ohio State Medical Center.

Jerry was not only a loving husband, father, and son, but he was also loved by all who met him due to his caring, comforting ways. He never wanted to stand out in a crowd, but many were drawn to his sincerity, warmth, and witty sense of humor. He was “Uncle Jerry” to many, as he was not only an ever-loving father to Wendi and Amanda, but was a friend, a coach, a listener, and a mentor to many other kids and adults, for that matter.

Jerry’s knowledge of the Lord’s word was only surpassed by his devotion and strength to living out His teachings in the way he lived his own life.  He was a life-long member of the Primitive Baptist Church and enjoyed engaging in discussions of faith and scriptures.

Jerry was a 1968 graduate of Lenore High School in Lenore, WV and, after many years of hard work at night school, while also working full-time, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Franklin University in 1995. Jerry worked thirty-three years at Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies and, after his retirement from Lucent, he worked at Reynoldsburg Post Office.

Jerry is survived by the love of his life, Cynthia (Denton) Preece. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on July 15th, 2024. He is also survived by two adoring daughters, Wendi (Jason) Phillips of Heath, and Amanda (Seth) Martin of Buchtel; grandchildren, Abigail Phillips, Mia Martin, and Bean Martin; Brothers, Warren Preece and Wallace (Delores) Preece of West Virginia, Homer (Pam) Preece, and Robert (Lisa) Preece of Ohio. Sister, Mary (Gary) Edwards of West Virginia, and many, many special nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Preece, sister Pauline Workman, sister Barbara Annable, parents-in-law Chester and Mary Denton, brothers-in-law Larry Denton, Cliff Workman, Skip Annable; sister-in-law, Myrtle Preece.

Donations can be made to Marlboro Primitive Baptist Church, 8352 Union Drive Galloway, OH 43119.
