Funeral services, celebrating the life of Jesse Canaday, 85, of Thornville, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in the Community Wesleyan Church, 161 Myrtle Avenue, Newark, with visitation to precede the funeral from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral at 11:00 a.m. The family will also receive friends on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home, 56 South Main St. in Thornville. Private family burial will follow later that afternoon in the Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville.

Jesse died Friday, June 28, 2024 in Zanesville following a brief illness. He was born October 5, 1938 in Carrollton, Missouri, the son of the late Carroll and Flora (Mason) Canaday. He retired from the Federal Government as a computer specialist, and he served honorably in the US Air Force.

He is survived by his loving family: his wife Janice A. (Martin) Canaday whom he married on December 27, 1959. His children Jacque (Dana) Hartman, Janean (Carl) Litzinger, Jennifer (Craig) Snider and Jeff (Erin) Canaday; his fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; along with his sisters Phyllis and Dixie and many nieces and nephews; as well as his church family at Community Wesleyan Church.

Jesse was a National Champion Roller Skater in his early years, a major Sheridan Generals fan and videographer for 22 years for several Sheridan H.S. sports; and an ordained Wesleyan Pastor where he visited hundreds of people in their homes and at times of illness. He was also an avid golfer and truly loved serving people, with a compassionate heart.

The family prefers that instead of flowers please consider a donation in his memory to the Sheridan High School Athletic Boosters, 12260 Beechtree Ct. N., Thornville, OH 43076.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
