A Homegoing Service celebrating the life of Jesse Scott, Sr., 94, of Newark, Ohio will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Dr. Michael A. Noble officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Monday, December 27th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Jesse passed away peacefully at his home on December 21, 2021. He was born in Pleasant Hill, AL on May 27, 1927 to the late Elder and Harriett (Bennett) Scott. He worked for Roper and ET Rugg. He also worked in the asphalt paving business for over 45 years. He was a foreman and superintendent for Newark Asphalt Paving Company and Kokosing. After his retirement, he started and ran a successful paving company called Scott and Clossman. Mr. Scott was never afraid of hard work and held two or more jobs most of his life. He was a lover of blues, jazz, fishing, keeping his yard meticulously mowed and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Jesse Jr., Kevin, Michelle, Rebecca, Priscilla (Jeff Hammonds) and Moneque (William Lipscomb); siblings, Chris (Marsha) Slaughter, Tina Slaughter, Joanne Slaughter; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Eddie Mae Scott, who passed away in November 2021; brothers, Lee Slaughter, Calvin Scott and Samuel Scott; sisters, Marty Slaughter and Rita Robusky; and step-mother, Mattie Slaughter.
