Joan Mae Writesel

A funeral mass celebrating the life of Joan Mae (Healey) Writesel, age 93, of Hebron, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Father Bill Hritsko officiating. Burial will take place in Fairmount Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church, 5133 Walnut Road, Buckeye Lake.

Joan was born April 7, 1930 in Briggsdale, Ohio to the late Daniel Vernon and Marguerite Bertha (Eichelbarger) Healey. She passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at her home.

In addition to being a very busy wife, mother, and grandmother, Joan was employed at Lazurus in downtown Columbus for 10 years where she worked in the men’s department. A woman with many interests and hobbies, she especially enjoyed crocheting, going to flea markets and the Route 40 yard sales, collecting baseball cards and Longaberger baskets, and playing Euchre and Bingo. Joan was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church where she was in the first Holy Communion class at the church, Eagles #2801, Amvets Post #51, and was a life member of the VFW.

She is survived by her children, Nathan A., Jr. of Hebron, Patrick (Shelli) of Johnstown, David of Columbus, and Theresa (Gary) England of Columbus; 26 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Elta of Utica and Marcia of Walterboro, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan A. Writesel, Sr. in 2007; sons, Daniel in 1971, Ronald in 2013, and Stephen in 2019; daughter-in-law, Carolyn, in 1996; special niece, Carolyn Lee VanTilburg in 2021; dear, loving uncle and aunt who raised her, Franklin and Ada Roshon; and dear grandmother who raised her, Estella “Mom” McGuire.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
