Joanne Catherine (Krumlauf) Severance passed on to her heavenly home on February 5, 2022 at Fairfield Medical Center surrounded by loved ones. She was born on August 22,1929 in Somerset, Ohio to Joseph and Alice (McElroy) Krumlauf. A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, February 12 at the Millersport United Methodist Church. Her grandson Mitchell Severance will be celebrant. Please come for a service of joy, music, memories and, of course, food (lots of pie). The family will greet friends and family from 10:00-11:30 prior to the service with a luncheon immediately following in the fellowship hall. She will be interred at a later date.
While Joanne faithfully attended Millersport United Methodist Church for over 60 years, she maintained her Catholic faith receiving communion and last rites prior to her death. Joanne grew up in Somerset and attended Holy Trinity for her school and religious upbringing. She was the youngest and last surviving sibling of the ten Krumlauf children. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings Ernie, George and John; Mary Finck; Barbara Kover; Ruth Keenan; Margaret (Sister Diane) Krumlauf; Pauline Sweeney and Leah Hemmer.
Mom was an accomplished homemaker, seamstress, cook and pie baker. She went through her life in a confident, quiet way baking pies for a TWIG bake sale or someone’s birthday, sending a card, making a phone call, preparing a dish for a pot luck or funeral meal, crafting or altering a wedding dress, hemming a pair of pants, sewing a costume or just visiting friends. There was always a delicious meal on the table, the door was always open, and she prided herself with finding new recipes to prepare.
As a young girl she would take in clothes for ironing or braid hair to make money. She later worked at The Times Recorder, Diamond Power, and the Millersport Bank Company. However, her mission in life was taking care of Bert, Mark, Dean, Julie and their many friends.
She is survived by husband of 66 years, Bert Severance Jr. and three children that cherished her: Mark (Kathy) Severance, Dean (Karen) Severance and Julie (Mike) Bruckelmeyer all of Millersport. She was a doting grandmother to Michael (Crystal) Severance, Mitchell (Kaylee) Severance, Nicholas (Andrea) Bruckelmeyer, David (Amanda Desimowich) Bruckelmeyer, Elyse (Bryan) Sayre, and Evan (Mr. Home Town Hot Dog) Bruckelmeyer, Jeff (Suzanne) Matthews and Jenni (Lori) May-Matthews. She is also survived by the “greatest” great-grandchildren: Emily, Clair, Gryffen, CJ, Payslee, Vivee, Emerson, Harper, Hudson and Emmett. Over the years Joanne was blessed with many neighbors and friends from the UMC Women’s Circle, Gabby Gals Euchre, Alpha Mother’s Club, Millersport Senior Citizens, Millersport Community Theatre, and TWIG 13 that celebrated the wonders of life with her.
In lieu of flowers, Joanne repeatedly requested donations be given in her honor to the Little Blessings Preschool at the Millersport United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 296 Millersport, OH 43046).
