Joe Smith

Joe L. Smith, 65, of Newark, died Monday, September 3, 2012, in Marysville, following an extended illness.He was born October 22, 1946, the son of the late Estel Ray and Flossie A. (Work) Smith. Joe was a 1964 graduate of Utica H.S., and owned and operated the Sunoco Station in Utica for several years.He loved working on cars, fishing and was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes Football fan. He was a member of the Chatham United Methodist Church.He is survived by his loving family: his son Shawn (Vicky) Smith of St. Louisville, daughter Sherie (Jeff) Ford of North Lewisburg; his grandchildren Blaine Smith, Alycia, Zach and Shane Ford; his sister Jane Smith of Granville, brothers John (Gloria) Smith of San Antonio, TX., Willie (Karen) Lane of Ashland; along with many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Alberta Eble and brother Jerry Smith.His family will receive friends on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Kirkersville home of The HOSKINSON Funeral & Cremation Service, 285 E Main St in Kirkersville; where funeral services celebrating his life will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Roger Nichols as celebrant.Burial, with full military honors by the Licking Co Veterans Alliance, will follow at the Kirkersville Cemetery.The family prefers memorials in Joes memory to the Activities Fund at Spring Meadows Care Center, 1649 Park Rd. Woodstock, Ohio 43084.
