Joel R. Shamblin

A funeral service celebrating the life of Joel R. Shamblin, 80, of Thornville, will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thornville chapel of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Keith Sjostrand officiating. Burial will follow in Community Gardens in Somerset. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 56 S. Main Street, Thornville, on Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Joel was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 10, 1944 to the late Joel C. and Ruth L. (King) Shamblin. He passed away at Tuscany Gardens on April 22, 2024. Prior to retirement, Joel was a carpenter with Major Builders for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars, carpentry, but most important was the time he spent with his loving family and friends. Survivors include his daughters, Ruth (Paul) Beach, Wilma (David) Stevens, Anita (Greg) Shamblin, Joyce (Rodney) Hykes and Josephine (James) Wood; sisters, Leatha Griffin and Billy Jo (Gary) Taylor; brothers, Pete Shamblin and Tom Shamblin; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Deanna Carol (Adair) Shamblin; grandson, Robert Sias, Jr.; and a sister, Stella Davis.
