John Lee Derrick

November 6, 1948 — July 10, 2020

A graveside service for John Lee Derrick, age 71, of Mount Vernon, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, at Newark Memorial Gardens, 4244 Marion Road NE in Newark with Pastor Mark Wildermuth officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to the graveside service at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street in Newark. Masks are required and please practice social distancing.

John was born November 6, 1948 in Mount Clemens, Michigan to the late John W. Derrick and the late Alice (Mitchell) Derrick Evans. He passed away at his residence on Friday, July 10, 2020.

John had been a mechanic prior to becoming disabled. He enjoyed Karaoke, going dancing and had a very funny sense of humor.

He is survived by a son, John W.L. Derrick (Angel Hamilton) of Newark; two daughters, Linda (Ron) Elwart and Alice Hazen, all of Marlette, Michigan; grandchildren, Ronald Elwart, Jr., Ashley Armstrong, Zachary Elwart, Karissa Townsend, Kylie Townsend, Keegan Townsend, Devin Townsend and Dylan Derrick; great-grandchildren, Cordelia, Victoria, Arabella and Roland Armstrong and Kinsley Calhoun; brothers, Bill Derrick of Indiana and Ron Derrick of Sandusky, Michigan; sisters, Theresa Bennett of Algonac, Michigan, Nancy Kallom of Brown City, Michigan, Gloria (James) Williams of Attica, Michigan and Judy (Duane) Hampton of Marine City, Michigan; long-time friend, Esther L. Bishop; and many nieces and nephews.
