John Desmond Goodrich, 52, passed away in his home in Jacksontown, Ohio, on Thursday, October 20, 2022. John was born February 13, 1970, in Royal Oak, Michigan to John E. Goodrich and Ina L. (Jackson) Cook. He spent most of his life in Livingston County, Michigan, where he married his wife and raised a daughter and son. John was a devout Christian, a patriot, a sportsman, and a loving family man. He was a member and served on the board at Lifechange Church in Newark. He retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service, with the 501st Airborne Infantry where he proudly earned his wings, the 156th Signal Battalion where he deployed to Iraq, and the 46th Military Police Command where he deployed to Afghanistan. He umpired and refereed little league to college level athletes in several sports for 20 years. He enjoyed watching movies and cooking. He was captivated by outer space and science fiction. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, camping, and yardwork. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his dog, Holly. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 30 years, Kendra (Thorne) Goodrich; daughter, Ariel (Goodrich) Hoeft; son, Bailey Goodrich; son-in-law, Kyle Hoeft; father and stepmother, John E. and Jeanne Goodrich; stepfather, Neal Cook Sr.; in-laws, Gary and Barb Thorne Sr.; siblings, Tim Goodrich, Maribeth Esordi, Bonnie Goodrich, David Bagnasco, and Neal Cook Jr.; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ina Cook; mother-in-law, Peggy Thorne; and step-sisters, Charlene Zerla and Angelina Bagnasco. In lieu of flowers due to severe allergies in the home, memorial contributions may be made to his son, Bailey Goodrich, so that he can complete college. A local memorial service will be held on November 5th at Lifechange Church in Newark, OH at 3:30pm, with visitation prior from 1:00-3:00pm. A memorial will be held Friday, November 18th at Brighton Assembly of God church at 7770 Whitmore Lake Rd Brighton, MI 48116. The visitation will be from 10:00am-11:00am with service from 11:00am-12:00pm. Interment and military honors will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery at 1:30pm, located at 4200 Belford Rd Holly, MI 48442.
