John J. Garber

A funeral service celebrating the life of John J. Jack Garber, age 85, of Newark, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Smith. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 31, at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.Jack was born May 26, 1931 in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania to the late Peter and Mary (Wagner) Garber. He passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Mount Carmel East Hospital.Jack was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during World War II. He had been a trucker with the Montgomery Ward Co. for 30 years. He was a member of the Hanover American Legion and the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. He served on the Hanover Village Council for six years.In Pennsylvania Jack was a member of the North Belle Vernon Fire Department, the Washington Township Fire Department, the Rostraver Emergency Medical Service and had been a police officer with the North Belle Vernon Borough.He is survived by his significant other, Donna S. Bunting; son, John E. (Kim) Garber of Belle Vernon, PA; step-daughter, Samantha (J.R.) Simpson of Toboso; sisters, Marion (Julio) Angeline of Belle Vernon, PA, Jean McFarland of Cerritos, CA and Mildred (Larry) Molocznick of Santa Fe Springs, CA; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter Garber and William Garber; and a sister, Jackie McFarland.Memorial contributions may be made to the Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Department.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Jack and his family.
